Stocking Stuffers for their 1st Christmas
A question that gets asked quite often is what to give to a new baby, especially a new baby who has an older sibling or two. New babies don't need a lot, but you want to share holiday joy, and you want to celebrate your baby. If they happen to have older siblings, the big brothers & sisters what their younger siblings to be part of it all too! This is when we go with useful yet fun.
Baby Paper ($6.99) makes a wonderful early sensory toy that will fit into even the smallest stocking. Easy to grasp, easy to make crinkle noises, and washable too! A fresh and cute new teething toy is another great option. The Cutie Cooler ($10.99) selection of teethers from Itzy Ritzy can be chilled in the fridge to add an extra layer of teething relief. They're practical and fun too; my favourite is the snack set. If baby is ready for the world of exploring solid foods, a new sippy cup might be in order. The Soft Spout Sippy ($9.99) from RePlay is lightweight, easy to hold, and comes with a protective cap for travel. It is a perfect transition cup for infants and toddlers.
Stocking Stuffers for the Littlest Big Kids and the Biggiest Little Kids
Old enough to have experienced a holiday or two and young enough to be enthralled with holiday magic there are almost endless options for stocking stuffers and gifts.
Crafts, colouring, art in all its forms will get imaginations flying, creativity flowing, and will keep little hands busy. For the youngest artists, try Chunkies Paint Sticks ($11.99) from Ooly. It's like painting but with a crayon and no mess. Easy to for small hands to grasp, these paint sticks smoothly glide, dry quickly, and won't smudge. More advanced artists will enjoy Ooly Double Up ($9.99) double ended maker. Each marker has two colours for twice the fun. Paper crafts are another great option for the older kids. My Little Origami ($8.99) kits come with 20 sheets and instructions with a choice of puppies or unicorns.
After arts & craft time, comes bath time. Handmade in Vancouver, Bath Squigglers are a fun bath time addition. The perfect sized bath bomb for young kids; enjoy the fizzing, colour & fruity scent while waiting to discover the hidden sponge toy inside the bath bomb. Happy Hippo Magic Elf Dust ($6.99), made in Red Deer, will help fill up that stocking with Christmas magic. Pour Magic Elf Dust onto the top of the bath for an eruption of fizz, bubbles, fragrance and colour! Blue, red and green swirl in your bath and as the color spreads from the fizzing top of the bath down into the water.
A final couple of stocking stuffer ideas under $12...
Family game night or just a fun way to learn about numbers, cooperative play, and being a gracious player, you can't go wrong with classic card games ($5.99). Old Maid, Go Fish, War, or Crazy 8s, you probably already know the rules and can share a childhood favourite with your children. The kids can up their style game with temporary tattoos ($6.99) from Les Tatoues. Designed in Montreal, there's a tattoo for everyone's style. Well-made and lasting up to a week, tempoary tattoos are another fun way to express yourself.
